lunacy

the clock showed the time 9.36 as night has begun to fall down; replacing the day as the sun began to wear out. table full of scraps and books, watches, wallet, coins, and a glass of hot honey tea. it was not the moon accompanying me this night, but the profound silence - silence i had within myself, sealing my lips, and not quite the silent i could have outside - which i found to be really enjoyable. listening at nothing and staring at the blank space in my screen, until i decided to write things down - something worth to be shared - in my online journal.

i was thinking of the younger day - yes - our adolescence, pre adolescence period. all the time we have our needs provided, name it shelter, food, and services. our significant parents were our breadwinner, and often we labeled them as a money bank. we savored the moment when we could enjoy the time our most worrying about nothing. education we might worried about, but we knew that we would still live. perhaps our thinking that time was further ahead, but we never had the paradigm as we have now. we demand lucre more than ever. if demand is not the right word, then think of how would you live a day. cut the coffee, miss the lunch, just for the sake of paying rent and some bills.

the phrase says that 'money makes the world go round'. an inevitable truth. realize that better countries are those with better economy than the others. money facilitates our needs: health, food, education, entertainment, and even romance. people in abundance have a higher chance to make their dream comes true, whether it is true the legal way or not. oh no, most people no longer care which way you take, they only notice where you are ended up to, and thus value you by that. we here in the modern society seem to live in a cycle of being poor and wealthy. be the later one and happy life is almost guaranteed.

all those descriptions lead us to our well accounted friend 'materialism'. people work their ass off 9 to 5 answering phone just to buy the latest gadget to make them up to date. assume also they have a part time job in a downtown bar 5 to 9 to pay their credit card bills. they went home and had to type the report due tomorrow. woke up at 8 in the morning rushing to catch up the train. a well packed daily routine giving you large amount of bucks, though it was never enough. no it was not. you think you can get more and you want to.

it was 10.15 now and the music has stopped. the band has ceased to play more songs, probably the cold, or maybe the moon slowly has risen to the top, sitting at his very high throne to rule the night. i heard mumbling, voices from outside, but gradually it got weaker. no, louder.

money cannot content us. they provide us with what we need but we always need more. the world is too big for a small human who lives maybe no more than a century. limited in time, we also are limited in space. we put money in our plate, often to keep us full, but no, you know it will not. put it in a silver platter still, it will not. but the irony is we cannot be deprived of money. it is not possible for us not to put it in our plate as well.

essential it is for our living. live we are in a world where money is the lord, the devil, you name it. we always want to have more, but even one put in a gold chalice will not content you. absurd! and we cannot complain. they torture us with their power, as when they start to govern our life.

someone somewhere said that:
money can buy you a house, but not a home.
food, but not appetite.
a mattress, but not sleep.
sex, but not love.
the list goes on and on.

but another person also said:
people who say money doesnt buy happiness simply dont know where to shop.

hmmm. money can give you material and you can gain pleasure from it, but is that always the case?

money really does make the world go round. honestly, where would we be without money?

...but is it the most important thing?

worldly things they can buy and i never say that we cannot gain pleasure from money. they do give us the delight, but we never have enough. soon enough, it will perish, might or might not.

not that i'd say home will not perish, appetite will not lost, love will not fade. but things i mentioned are simply priceless. you may get one, but you can never buy them back, or at least, real hard to.

you can buy a new home, but a house is not a home with loved around.
you can buy a new mattress, but sleep can be restless.
you can pay for sex, but love can never be bought.

if only we can so easily let go of our worldly desires.

money isnt the root of all evil. greed is.
